Gum Treatment
If inflammation begins due to various irritations (poor oral hygiene, incorrect brushing, poorly fitted prostheses, certain systemic diseases, or harmful habits) and is left untreated, bone loss and gum recession can occur over time. As bone loss progresses and gum inflammation worsens, the connection between the teeth and bone weakens, eventually leading to tooth loss.
In such cases, the gums may be surgically opened, cleaned, and sutured back. Bone grafts can be applied to areas with bone loss, and connective tissue or gum grafts can be used in areas with gum recession to restore lost tissue.
The fundamental rule for maintaining healthy gums is good oral hygiene. The success of all treatments depends on the patient’s ability to properly clean and brush their teeth and gums regularly. Otherwise, gum disease is likely to return shortly after treatment.
