Sensitivity Treatments
Tooth sensitivity is a very common problem and can be quite uncomfortable depending on its severity. It may occur if:
There is wear on the teeth (due to trauma, teeth grinding, or hard brushing)
There are cavities in the teeth
There are old, large fillings
Acidic foods are consumed frequently
Very hot or very cold foods are eaten

The source of the sensitivity needs to be accurately identified and treated.
  • If there is decay in the teeth, tooth decay should be treated first.
  • If there is wear on the teeth, the worn surfaces need to be protected with fillings or crowns depending on the amount of wear.
  • If there are old and large fillings on the teeth, the compatibility of the fillings and whether there is any re-decay underneath should be checked, and root canal treatment and new fillings should be performed if necessary.
  • If you have any unhealthy eating habits or harmful habits that are causing sensitivity, you should definitely address them. For example, you should avoid highly acidic foods. Avoiding these foods is essential for both your overall health and the health of your teeth. Avoid eating or drinking very hot and very cold foods repeatedly. Sudden temperature changes can cause cracks in your tooth enamel. These cracks can lead to tooth sensitivity, discoloration, and the onset of cavities.
  • Don't brush your teeth immediately after consuming acidic foods. This will leave you brushing with acid in your mouth, which isn't a good thing for your teeth. After consuming acidic foods, rinse your mouth with a glass of water and wait half an hour before brushing.
  • If you have a habit of grinding your teeth, you may lose enamel and experience sensitivity. In addition to necessary treatments for sensitivity, you may also need to wear a night guard to prevent this.
  • Improper brushing habits can cause tooth wear and gum damage. If your doctor detects this, ask your doctor for the correct brushing technique and continue brushing accordingly. Use the toothpaste recommended by your doctor.
Additionally, applying fluoride to teeth in cream or gel form helps remineralize tooth enamel and reduces sensitivity. Laser-assisted treatments can also help alleviate sensitivity.
